Rom Vardos (excerpt from “The Gypsy’s Song”)

 “.. our priceless vardos,
our only homes, sturdy on five-foot wheels

Rom vardos were masterpieces, never before seen and never to be
seen again.  Our symbols were elaborately carved into hardwood, with bright
colors intricately applied.

This was not enough to denote our cherishing; to further express
the exalted status of the vardo, we carefully applied gold leaf.

…..Any eyes not used to Rom opulence were certainly bedazzled
by our vardo caravans that glittered the morning’s dawn
even more golden.”
